Comin’ In Hot: Chick-fil-A pt. 2

I knew my time was ticking on trying this abomination, so I caved and got it.

Let me make sure I get one thing straight with y’all before this goes any further: I don’t believe grilled chicken belongs between two buns.

Grilled chicken sandwiches should not exist. That might be a hot take to some, but I really don’t care. Something about the bread sticking to the bird doesn’t sit right with my spirit.

But, I saw that Chick-fil-A was advertising a spicy version of their standard grilled chicken sandwich, and I thought what the hell? Let’s do something different!

I got one of the traditional spicy sandwiches to kind of compare it to, and I also got the fried sandwich to have something I liked in case the grilled sandwich was bad.

I was thoroughly surprised.

The first thing I need to get off my chest is that you would have to be a lunatic to put American cheese (???) on a grilled chicken sandwich. That’s just disgusting.

Replace that waxy yellow cardboard for some pepper jack cheese. You won’t regret it.

The bun here is different from the fried sandwich. It’s more of a wheat or multigrain bun, which is a nice change of pace since the appeal of this sandwich is that it’s a healthier option than any of their fried food.

As for how it tastes, the bun actually adds a little bit to the sandwich here. I swear to y’all I haven’t gone crazy, but the bun brings something to the table for once.

The lettuce and the tomato taste fresh as they always do on the fried sandwich, but they’re particularly good here. Maybe it’s because lettuce and tomato go better with a grilled sandwich than they do a fried sandwich. Who’s to say?

Frankly, I don’t remember if there were pickles on this sandwich or not, but if there were, I know they wouldn’t have meshed as well with this sandwich as they do with the fried. The fried is dipped in pickle juice, so it’s not even a fair comparison there.

Now, onto the bird.

The bird here is as good as you’d expect from CFA. They never miss on bird quality. While I was worried about the texture and spice level, the Cows eliminated my worries.

The texture is phenomenal, and the spices are the star of the show. It’s the spiciest chicken sandwich on the fast food market by far. It’ll kick you in the mouth like Mirko Cro Cop.

Overall, this was a delightful surprise. I don’t want people to get the wrong idea: I like grilled chicken! I just don’t think it belongs in a sandwich. That’s all.

Except this sandwich. It’s delicious. They should keep this on the menu full-time because I would consider ordering it almost as frequently as their fried sandwich.

And, if you haven’t noticed, the CFA spicy deluxe is second on my tierlist. That’s the kind of praise I’m singing here.

If you haven’t tried it, do yourself a favor and go get one.
