The Philly Report: Cardinals Recap/Cowboys Preview

The ShwanMann has returned to recap the undefeated Eagles’ victory over the Cardinals as well as preview their upcoming matchup with their division rivals, the Dallas Cowboys.

Well, last week’s 20-17 victory over the Cardinals had “trap game” written all over it.

Definitely the least impressive victory on the year, though I’ll never be upset with a win. Felt like it could have gone either way, but I am happy with the end result.

Stopping a game-changing player like Kyler Murrary is never an easy task, so credit to the Birds for getting it done! Here’s my biggest takeaways!

Hop on the Hurts wagon

We are reaching the point of the season that we have a firm grasp on who Jalen Hurts is as a player.

And let me tell you, the answer is what every Eagles fan wants to hear.

Jalen Hurts is playing like an MVP candidate still and inching his way to becoming a top 10 quarterback in the league.

Heck, based on this season alone he has played like a top 10 quarterback.

What I mean is that, when this season is all said and done, Jalen can place himself in the conversation of “who are the top quarterbacks in the league.”

That was easily the best case scenario to come out of this Eagles season. I watch him play, and you very clearly can see the development and growth he’s had.

He had another great day Sunday. 26/36 for 239 yards with 15 carries for 61 yards and 2 TDs. He was the Eagles offense.

I have seen some tweets over the past few days of people ripping into his low passing TD numbers, but that doesn’t really make any sense to me.

He’s still scoring TDs, just with his legs. If you still can put up six (6) points, who cares how it gets done?

I, for one, am very impressed by Jalen Hurts. I am very happy he is the quarterback of this team. I never wanted to trade for another quarterback this past off-season.

I thought Jalen earned the job for another year. Happy to see that I was right in that aspect.

I Love Dallas (Goedert)

Eagles’ tight end Dallas Goedert streaks his way through the Arizona Cardinals’ defense.

I think it’s time we have a conversation about where Dallas Goedert lands in the “top tight ends in the league” argument.

At number 1, it is far and away Travis Kelce.

Kelce is truly a mismatch on offense and a bona-fide 1st ballot Hall of Famer.

Number 2 is Mark Andrews. Andrews is an elite weapon in his own right. Every time I watch Ravens games, he is wide open. Andrews reminds me of Zach Ertz, except he is a YAC machine.

Number 3 is where you have an argument to be made.

Is it George Kittle, even though his receiving numbers have taken a hit after injuries?

Is it Darren Waller? He looks like a big WR out there in Oakland.

Kyle Pitts certainly has the ability to be here, but for whatever reason, Arthur Smith, who I like as a coach, fails to use him more.

This is where I think Dallas Goedert makes a case.

Goedert’s game against the Cardinals was his best all year. 8 catches for 95 yards. He is a true YAC machine. Hurts was able to find him on a few TE screens that he absolutely took the tail off and ran.

Goedert is definitively the inverse to Zach Ertz, who I love, but seemed to always go down at the first sign of contact.

On the year Goedert has 24 catches for 335 yards and a TD. That’s a 14.0 yards per reception average. He is a monster out there, and it’s time people start admitting it.

I Hate Dallas (Cowboys)

The vaunted Dallas defensive duo in cornerback Trevon Diggs and linebacker Micah Parsons.

We made it, the first of two important weeks of the Eagles season.

Dallas week.

I hate them, we hate them, they hate us.

Enough said.

If the Eagles EVER go 2-15, those 2 wins better be against Dallas.

I hate that they are always on a 4 o’clock game or primetime. I hate that they are talked about like this elite juggernaut every year.

My version of the Dallas Cowboys is a team of failure.

Every single NFC team besides the Washington Commanders, the Detroit Lions, and you guessed it, the Dallas Cowboys have made the NFC championship game since the Cowboys last made it.

That’s actually pathetic.

My favorite annual tradition begins in the offseason.

The Cowboys have either missed the playoffs or find a way to lose in an embarrassing way in the 1st (or rarely the 2nd) round.

They have an offseason that’s so-so. Then, they start to get hyped up. It builds and builds until rankings come out, and they have the Cowboys high.

Once the season starts and they start the first half well, they always end up stumbling into the finale.

Whether they miss the playoffs like 2019 or lose in the first round in embarrassing fashion like last year (2021), it truly baffles me that this happens every year.

They are a pathetic franchise that is in a constant state of mediocrity since the 21st century. I hope Jerry Jones dies, because he is a hero amongst us.

He has single-handedly been holding them back, and I love it.

Bring it on Dallas.

I am not afraid of Cooper Rush, or your WRs, or your O-line.

I am not afraid of your “elite defense” that has shut down a clearly-aged Tom Brady, a Joe Burrow with a terrible O-line, a Daniel Jones, a Carson Wentz, or a Super-Bowl hungover Matt Stafford.

This team is incredibly overrated.

The Cowboys have talent, yes, but not to the extent people say they have.

CeeDee Lamb certainly has the ability to be a top WR in the league, but do you put him in that category now?

Cooper Rush is a backup quarterback; that is all he ever will be.

However, if you listen to “experts” or Cowboys fans, you would think there is a huge quarterback controversy.

Trevon Diggs has big-play ability, but do you see him as the best in the game?

(Micah Parsons is legit, I have no gripes there.)

So bring on the Dallas Cowboys.

I can’t wait to see how they do in an environment that will not have nearly as many Cowboys “fans” in attendance to support them.

The Linc will be rocking, and the Eagles will be rolling. Go Birds.
